Christchdbch, Tuesday. At the Akaroa Magistrate's Court on Friday, a most barefaced case of perjury occurred. J. Adams was sued by H. G. VYatkius for an account o '. £9 for jewellery.. &c, Bupplied to his wife and adopted daughter. Both the latter swore distinctly that they had never bought any of the goods, and the adopted daughter (a Miss Henderson) asserted that the things bad been given to her by a Mr Delamain, to whom she was formerly engaged. Watkiqs produced several witnesses, who proved to the contrary. Ultimately Mr Williams, counsel for the defendant, said it was of no use to call farther evidence; there was sufficient to show thai the statements made by Mrs Adams And Mis3 Henderson were false, and if th* Bench would say that no information would b« laid for perjury, they should be re-called and would retract ttU they had svora to.
