" JEgroto, dum animas est, spes est." DB. L. IT SMITH (The oaly legally-qualified Medical man advertising), 00N8OLT8— On all affections of the Nervous System (no matter from what cause arising) ; on all broken-down Constitutions ; on all Diseases arising from early Indiscretions ; on Gout ; oh Rheumatism. IN these Colonies, those excesses which we ; have indulged in "hot youth" tell upon us with fearful interest. Our regrets are useless, our repinings futile. The. sola idea should be the chances we possess of remedying the ills 4 we already have, or combating the effects likely to result Hide it ac he may-put on as good an exteripr as he cau— still is the victim conscious that ha is a living lie, and that sooner or later his vices will discover him to the world. Our Faith— our obligations to society at large— tho welfare of ourluture offspring— aud the duty we owe to ourselves— forbids procrasti nation, and points out to us not to waie till tha ravages break oue in our constitutions. Before negotiating with a merchant- before engaging with a confidential clerk; before employing a barrister— a careful man makes inquiries as to their standing ; and, in the case of a legal adviser, both as to his Jegal qualifications and as to his capabilities of transacting the individual business he consults him; upon. Strange to aay, however, in the selection of a medical man, the sufferer frequently omits these necessary precautions, and without regard to the fitness, qualification, experience, and ability for the particular ailment requiring treatment, he consults the nearest man, whose experieace and prac? tice, perhaps, lies in quite an opposite direction. Is it astonishing that so many are driven mad, are ruioed in health, and are bankrupt in spirits, hope, and money? Have I not, for years, pointed out to them thae I, Br. L. L. Smith, am tke only legally-qualified medical matt advertising in tke Colonies? Have I not also prosecuted, at my own expense, these very quacks, and exposed the various nostrums tbey are selling— auch as Phosphodyne, Essence of Life, &c— and had them analysed, and found them to oonsist of ** Burnt sugar and fiavoiing matter," and the certificates I have proved to be all forgeries. It is for this reason that I step out ofthe ethics of the profession and advertise, to give those who requrie the services of my branch an opportunity of knowing they cau consult a legally qualified man, and one moreover who haa made this his especial study. Dr L L. Smith is the. only legally qualified medical man advertising, and he has been in Melbourne 24 years in full practice on Nervous Diseases Loss of Power and Debility Syphilitic Affections Want of Condition Gout and Rheumatism. Dr. t. L. SMITH can beconsulted by letter —Fee £l. Medicines forwarded to all the colonies. Dk. L. L. SMITH, 182 Collins st. East. [(Late the Residence of the Governor), MELBOURNE. 2lq
