The object of the Company is to work a Coal-tuimng Lease of 800 acres, situate at Waimangaroa Basin, Mount Rochfort. near Westport. which has been carefully selected from three prospecting areas of 5000 acres, at an expenditure of about £1000. Mr R. B. Denmston, Government Coal Viewer, and Mr S. Herbert Cox,' F.C.S. and F.G.S., Assistant Geologist, speak most highly both as to the quantity and quality oi the coal found in this lease, whilst the Hnalysis made at the Woolwich Dockyard classes it with the best North of England (Uartlev] Coal. The railway is completed and open from Westport to Waimangaroa, and the Wellington Coal Company have made a branch thenc( ' of ono mile five chains to their Mine, from which point it is purposed to make a tramwav to the coai, about two miles in length. , By careful computation it has been esti' . mated that the cost of opening up and con* nectmg the Mine with tbe Government Kailway, including all plant, will not exceed 5 £15,C00, and that the coal can be shipped fre< -j on board at W. stport at 8s per ton. The cost of this propert> to the Companj is £5100, the whole of which the promoter r have agreed to accept in p iid- up scrip in th. Cmpany, and in addition they bind Iha nt selves to take up not less than *6i;oo ol shares, thus showing thtir faith in the bone f fides of the Mine. The terma of the lease wil compel thf Corajany to have the Mine in working or Je. early in 1878, so that shareholders may r.l) 1 on hiving returns for their money wiihii . twelve month!'. Prospectuses and Forms of Application foi a Shares may be obtained, and a sample of thi coal eeen, together with a plan of the nronert] at the offlce of A. W. SCAIFE, * lA IS Agent for Nelson.
