The object of the Company is ;to work a Coal-mining Lta.e of BJO acres, situate at Waimangaroa Basin, Mount Rochfort. near Westport. which has been cirefully selected from three prospecting ar«= as of 5000 acres, at an expenditure of about £ i OOO. Mr R. B. Dennis ton, Government Coal Viewer.and Mr S. Herbert Cox, F.C.S. and F.G.S., Assistant Geologist, speak most highly both as to the quantity and quality of the coal founl in this lease, whilst tho analysis mi.de at the Woolwich Dockyard classes it with the best North of England (Uattley) The railway is completed and open from Westport to Waimangaroa, and the Wellington Coal Company have made a branch thence of one mile five chains to their Mine, from which point it is purposed to make a tramway to the coal, about two miles in length. By careful computation it has been estimated that the cost of opsning up and connecting the Mine with tiie Government Bailway, including all plant, wili not exceed £L5,C00, and that the coal can be 6hipped free on board at Wf stport at 8s per ton. The cost of this property to the Company ia £5100, the whole of which the promoteis liave agreed to accept in p-iid-up scrip in the C mpauy, and in. addition they bind themselves to take up not leas than £ 1 700 of shares, thus showing their faith in tho bona fides of the Mine. The terms of the Ic&se wil compel the Company ta have the Mine in working order early in 187S, so that [shareholders mvp r.ly on hiving returns far their money wi-hia tweive months. j^rcspeciuses and Forms of Application for Shares may be oblained, and a sample of the coal seen, together with a plan of the property at the office of A. W. SCAIFE, 11[5 Agent for Nelson.
