" JEgroto, dum animas est, spes est" DX. L. IT SMITH (The only legally-qualified Medical man advertising), CONSULTS — On all affections ot the Nervous System (no matter from whit cause arising); on all broken-down Constitutions ; on all Disease-! arising from early Indiscretions ; on Gout ; on Rheumatism. IN these Colonies, those excesses which we have indulged iv " hot youth " tell upon us with fearful interest. Our regrets are useless, our repinings futile. The sole idea should be the chunce. we possess of remedying the ills we already have, or combating the efiects likely t_ result Hide it as he may — put on as good an exterior as he can — still is the victim conscious that he is a living ite, and that sooner or laier his vices will discover him to the world. Our Faith — our obligations to society ac large— the welfare of our tuture ofi'spiiug— and the duty we owe to ourselves— forbids procrasti nation, and points out to us not to wait till the ravages break out in our constitutions. Before negotiating with a merchant , before engaging with a confidential clerk; before employing a barrister— a careful mun makes inquiries as to their standing ; and, in the case of a legal udviser, both as to his legal qualifications and as to his capabilities of transacting the individual business he consults him upon, btrange to say, however, in the selection of a medical man, tho eufferer frequently oniiis thesa necessary precautions, aud without regard to the fitness, qu -lifieation, experience, and ability for the paroicu lar nilment requiring treatment, he consults the uearest man, whose experience and practice, perhaps, lies in quite an opposite direction. Is it astonishing that so many are driven mad, are ruined in health, and nre bankrupt in spirits, hope, and money? Have 1 not, ior years, pointeu out to them that I, Dr. L L. Smith, am the only legally-qualified medical man advertising in the Colonies ? Have I not also prosicutsd, at my own expense, theae very quacks, and exposed the various nostrums they ure selling— such as Phosphodyne, Essence of Life, &c— and had them analysed, and lound ttum to oonsist of '• Burnt sugar and flavoring matter," and the certificates 1 have proved to be all forgeries, it is ior this reason that I step out of the ethics of the profession and advertise, to give those who requrie tbe services of my branch an opportunity ol knowing they can consult a kgal y qualified man, aud one moreover who uas mude this hia especial study. Dr L L. Smith is the only legally qualified medical man advertising, and he has b.tu in Melbourne 2 1 ytars in lud practico tn Norvous Diseases L>ss of fow* raud Debility syphilitic Affections vs aul of C ndiiiun Gout and Rheumatism.
