The Education Board has decided to appoint three teachers of music for the Dunedin Girls' Night School, one at £200 and two at £150 a year, the object being to reduce the cost 6f pupils. Thursday. Messrs Cargills' have received the following telegrani, dated London, 26th instant:— " Wool sales closed dull, without further change in price. The November advance is lost. Prices are as low as closiug sales of third series last year in August; superior classes only well maintained. General state of trade unsatisfactory. No confidence in future. ' Grahamstown, Thursday. Half-a-ton of rich specimens were taken this morning from the Moanatiri mine. The single stamper has been going eight hours a day on specimens, and the result for three days was lodged in the Bank this morning. The amount was 5250 ounces. Auckland, Thursday. A man named Peter M'Grath has been committed for trial on a charge of having committed a brutal assault on his wife. The evidence disclosed the most inhuman treatment of a sober aud industrious woman by a drunken husband. At the City Council meeting the Mayor stated that advices had been received by the Bank of New Zealand that balance of city debentures had been sold in London at par. The amount of the Government subsidy payable to the city is £21 85.
