IN SEARCH OF TREASURE.

A memorial has just been published in the Official Gazette of Pauaina, in which a story is related which throws into the shade that about tbe Island of Ctireos. The memoraltst is P. Supervielle, a citizen of tbe United fetates of America, domiciled in Senora, County oi Touiuuine, State of California, and residing temporally in Panama. He asks the Government to permit aud protect bim in making en exploration to search tor treasure which be knows to be buried somewhere between Panama and Chagres, and amounting to fifteen millions sterling It consists of gold, precious stones, and other jewellery, proceeding from tbe 'Government and private sources, and from the churches on the coast of South America. This treasure arrived' at the Isthmus during the Utter part of the war of Independence. It was sent ac-

cross the Atlantic with a convey of Spanish soldiers, wbo finding difficulties in getting across the mountains buried it. An eye-witness, who still survives in Havanoah, gave the petitioner lhe secret and information of the whereabouts to search for it, and this h. povt? comes to do, arid has np doubt of finding it, though it was buried 55 years ago. He promises to give the Government its legal share if found. The Government gave him full permission to explore wherever he likes. The memorialist desires to form a company to assist him in tbe enterprise. He wishes to have a square mile marked put where he can alone search. We express no opinion, but we wish him al! puccess, as the Treasury of the State is touch in need of such a Godsend as part of these millions would be to it, aod await with interest the result of Mr Supervielle's faith in the enterprise he has come to undertake. There is always some treasure story Cropping up on the Pacific, and it would be satisfactory to have one of them turn out a reality. .
