[Per Albion.] Melbourne, March 1 4. Election meetings continue to be held nightly. Professor Pearson stands forßoonondars in favor of a progressive land tax scheme. . Professor Hearn stands for St. Kilda in the free trade interest. Sir John O'Shannassey has decided in favor of Kilmore. The writs are expected to be issued early next month, when the campaign will commence in right earnest. Very heavy rain fell on Saturday, which caused some damage to property in Ballarafc and Melbourne. Business is very dull. The further extension of thirteen miles of Victorian railways was opened yesterday. Hastings was executed this morning. He' maintained his innocence of murdering his wife or violating his daughter. The new Victoria Club has proved a great success.
