Owing to the want of appropriations • this., year, the most that can be doJiefor these by; the authorities is to. furnish them,, with a meal for the day. The Board- of Appoint--ment. now has a resolution before 'it authorising the expenditure of 100,000 dollars for out-door relief, but it is doubtful whether it will be adopted unless public pressure is brought to bear in its favour. In the meantime, many are going without proper cloth--ing, looking for food, and unable to get even
the little fuel necessary to keep the temperature of their miserable apartments above the freezing-point. •
