We (Post) understand that a; great deal of dissatisfaction exists among the police of the colony regarding the result of the conference of police officers which has just been concluded. It is' stated also that as soon as the report of the proceedings is published a, conference of constables; is to be held, for the purpose of considering whether, the. "common" policemen . are willing to;abide by the decision of the officers. The Adelaide Register, in summarising the circulars received from farmers, estimates that 050,000 acres have been reaped • for wheat, averaging about six bushels to the acre. The total yield is 5,730,973 bushels, and deducting enough for seed and food, leaves a surplus of 3,020,290 bushels, or 80,918 tons, of wheat available for export. Th c Wellington Regatta, which commenced in January last, appears to be a longer affair than such meetings generally are. A local paper of Thursday last says:— Boating men and others express some anxiety to know when the Wellington regatta of 1*877 is likely to come to a conclusion. There are several, events still undecided-amongst others the match between Ilearn and Woods for Mr Brown's trophy- and there should iiow'be no difficulty in getting a suitable day. A Queensland telegram dated the sth inst. says that over 20 inches of rain had fallen in To'vnsville, and 17 inches at Water view, during the past three days. Mr Fisher the winner of the Challenge Cup for the best sample of wheat at the Adelaide Agricultural Show exhibited grain that weighed 681bs to the bushel. ' A Mr M'Caughton advertises in a Southland paper for 20. four-horse teams to do contract ploughing on his newly "purchased property of Okaiteru. This gentlemen : haa already brought 6000 acres under the plough at Wantwood, and rext year he will have altogether on his two estates 10,000 aores under cultivation. :
