The flrebells made a great noise to-day about half-past twelve, and a crowd of people instantaneously appeared in the streets as if by magic. Their number was altogether disproportionate Lo the cause of alarm, which was the blazing of a small gorse bush on the hill at the back of Dr CotterelFs. The Brigade turned out, there were sounds of horses galloping through the streets and the tinkling of bells on the hose carriages they were drawing, the tiny column of smoke that had set the alarm bells in motion disappeared, and .once more all was peace. The Aurora will leave the boat shed at five o'clock in the morning, arriving at Motueka at breakfast time, and will start on the return trip shortly after dinuer. Members of the Brigade will be sorry to learn that the cook of the Aurora is indisposed, and that consequently they will have to forego their usual cup of coffee tomorrow morning. ■;owing to some blundering on the part of th.c Post Office officials in Wellington, the Ausiralian mails per Arawata were nor, forwarded by the Kennedy, which arrived fro.v there this morning, but were left on board the steamer which brought them from Mel-, bcjurne. The consequence is that the opportunity of answering correspondence by the rejturn mail will be lost. ;It is notified elsewhere that ratepayers whose rates are left unpaid on tlie 31st inst.' will not be entitled to have their names placed on ; the citizens roll. | jNo Traveller or Voyager, or resident in, an unhealthly region should be without a' supply of : Udolpho Wolfe's Schikdam [ Aiuo:i vtic Schnapps.
