Christchuucu, Friday. A letter from the Minister of Justice has been received here stating that the Government will at once consider the law which preveuts absentees being sued in the Magistrates' Courts without the consent of their attorneys, and will take measures to amend it, Pooley, one of the English cricketers, arrived here this morning from Duuedin to answer a charge of assault on a man with whom he had a dispute about a bet. ' Wellington, Thursday. Sailed — Avalanche, for London, with 4,700 bales of wool, and sundry cargo, including 3,500 ounces of gold, the total value being £108,699. She also took 30 saloon and 30 steerage passengers. Friday. Mr O'Shea reports prices as follows:— Flour, £16; colonial, £19; Adelaide oats, 3s 3d to 3s 6d; bran, lOd to lid; wheat, j 5s 2d; hams, lod; bacon, 9d; cheese, 5d to | 6d; maize, 5s 6d; potatoes, £i to £s;' pollard, £7 10s to £8. Grahamstown, Thursday. Moanatairis have been sold to-day at £5. They are easier now, and have been quitted a* £4 15s. Wanganui, Thursday. The Harbor Board met again this afternoon, and adopted the most practical resolution under the circumstances, viz., That the pilot be requested to send his crew to sink a snag and punt in the channel seaward, and that a bullock team bo procured to collect drift logs to be fixed by sand bags, and that any extra labor and matrerial required be procured.
