The twin-screw steamer Waipara arrived early this morning from Greymouth having left that port at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. The Chaudiere hauled alongside the Albion Wharf yesterday morning, and commenced taking iv ballast this morning. The Lady Barkly returned from Golden Bay last evening at 11-30. The Wallace will sail for Wanganui tomorrow iv lieu of the Murray, there not being water enough on the Wanganui bar for the latter boat The Charles Edward leaves Hokitika for Nelson, calling at intermediate ports, this afternoon. The Kennedy leaves Wellington for Nelson direct to-night. The Arawata will arrive from Wellington to-morrow, and sail for Melbourne via Southern Ports with the outward Suez mail at 6 p.m. The Beautiful Star is still at Hokitika, where she is detained by the shallowness of the water on the bar. The schooner Awaroa has added another to her long list of rapid passages between Wanganui aud this port. She left Wangauui at i o'clock yesterday morning, and was off the Lighthouse at 2 o'clock this morning, but there being but very little wind at the time she was uuable to make the entrance to the. harbor in time to save the tide, and consequently came to an anchor. The Awaroa brings a cargo of 100 sheep, skins, hides, &c. She will sail for Wangauui on Monday af teruoon. The Union Company's s.s. Taranaki came into harbor this morning at 3 o'clock. She left Port Chalmers at 1-30 p.m. on the sth, and arrived at Akaroa at 0 a.m. on the 6th; left again after a stay of three hours, arriving at Lyttelton shortly after noon same day; left at 10 p.m., aud arrived at Wellington at 12-15 p.m. on the 7th; sailed for Picton at ll # 30 a.lll. yesterday, arriving there at 4 p.m.; left at 530 p.m., and arrived here as above. Fine weather with light winds marked the run up the coast. The Tarauaki sailed for Taranaki aud Manukau this afternoon, carrying the outward San Francisco snail. The s.s. Murray, Captain Conway, arrived from West Coast ports at 1-45 this afternoon. She left Nelson on the 2nd instant at 11-40 a.m. .for Westport; experienced strong S.W. wind jto Cape Farewell, arriving off the Buller bar at 9 a.m. on the 3rd, crossing ife at 10 a.m.; loft at miduight for Hokitika, but was compelled to put back on account of the heavy S.W. gale; started again on the sfch at 1-20 a.m., arriving off the Hokitika bar at Tls p.m., and crossing the it at 2 p.m.; left next day at noon, and arrived at Greymoutli at 3 p.m.; took in a cargo of coal, and left for Westport at 4 p.m. on the 7th, arriving there ait 1 a.m. yesterday; left for Nelson at 3-30 p.m. arriving here as above. Experienced light northerly winds and heavy S.W. swell to Cape Farewell. She will sail for Wellington on Sunday.
