UPPER MOTUEKA ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Upper Motueka Road Board was held on Saturday last. , It was resolved to hold a public meeting on ; Saturday first, and a special meeting immediately after, to consider what steps should be taken in order to obtain an extra subsidy from the Government on account of the great damage done to the roads by fche late flood. From a report which the Secretary was instructed to furnish to the Clerk of the Waimea County Council, a copy of which was read, it appears that there are 85 miles of main lines of road and 51 miles of branch roads within the district— total, 136 miles; and thafc the estimated cost of making the main roads fairly passable for cart traffic, and the greater part of the branch roads fit for horse traffic ouly, is £4070. Several ?etters were read from the Clerk to the Waimea County Council, applying for ordinary statistical information, which the Secretary reported had been supplied; also, a letter from the same .source requesting an estimate of the damage done by the late flood. The Secretary estimated the damage at afc least £400, and a reply had been sent to that effect. Accounts were paid amounting to £47 17s Gd.
