March 5, schooner Uno, 28, Kirk, from _.dele Island. ,6, steamer Hinemoa, Fairchild, from Hoki- , bika. — cutter Planet, 15, Thome, from Motu- , ska. , — ketch -Lily of the Wave, 10, Emms, t from Wangamoa. i SAILED. ; March 5, cutter Dauntless, 12, Brett, for Adele Island. .6, steamer Charles Edward, 125, Whitwell, for West Coast. — steamer Hinemoa, Fairchild, for Wellington and South. — schooner Richard and Mary, 44, Moore, for Waitapu. : : The Charles Edward sailed for West Coast ports this afternoon. The Kennedy left Westport at noon today. s She will arrive to-morrow morning, and sail for Wellington at 7 p.m. The Wallace will sail for Wanganui at 7 o'clock to-night. The Lyttelton leaves Wellington for Nelson to-morrow night. The Arawata arrived at the Bluff from Melbourne this morning. The Chaudiere will complete discharging to-morrow, when she will remove to the Albion Wharf to. take in ballast. She will sail for Napier at the end of the week. The Lady Barkly will sail for Golden Bay this evening at 8 o'clock. The Lily of the Wave, from Wangamoa, with a mixed cargo, consisting of poultry, firewood, swine, &c, arrived this morning. The. schooner Richard and Mary sailed this afternoon for Waitapu for a load of timber. The barque Melrose hauled alongside the Commercial Wharf this morning, and commenced discharging her cargo of coal. The Colonial Government steamer Hinemoa came into harbor this morning at 10-20. left Wellington on Friday last, and arrived off 'Hokitika on Saturday, but the bar Vbeing unworkable she was unable to be teu.dered on Sunday, and consequently the steamer was kept dodging about until yester'wday morning, when the state of the bar had "improved sufficiently to admit of the Hine- ;: moa being tendered. This being done she ...stood, on her course at 1-30 p.m. arriving here as above. She made a good run up, and has given "evidence of her steaming powers this trip, but very little canvas being used coming up. She sailed South at 12-40, and judging by the pace at which, she went down the bank, will be ia Wellington at nine o'clock to-night. .- .■ Captain John Webster, of the steamer Nestor, reports, that, when between Malacca and Penang, a huge monster about 20of t long by 50ft broad was seen by those on board at midday .on the 13th September. The creature was about 600 ft from the vessel, which it accompanied in a parallel direction for upwards of an hour, working from the port to the starboard side. It is described as having a dragon-shaped tail, square head, and to have been marked like a salamander. The doctor of the vessel and passengers are said to corroborate the statement.
