The Charles Edward arrived from Wellington yesterday afternoon, and will sail for West Coast ports at 2 p.m. to-morrow. The Wallace will sail for Wanganui tomorrow evening. The Kennedy leaves Greymouth for Nelson via Westport to-day. Owing to the state of the weather she has been detained 24 hours. The Hinemoa left Hokitika for Nelson this afternoon. She should arrive between 10 and 1 1 to-morrow morning. The Murray left Westport for Hokitika on Saturday night, but had to return yesterday. She made another attempt to-day, and crossed the Hokitika bar at noon." She reports a . heavy sea on the bar, She will leave for Nelson via intermediate ports to-morrow. The Beautiful Star arrived at Hokitika on Saturday from Dunedin aud the Bluff. The cutter Midge arrived from Waitapu on Saturday evening. The schooner Australian Maid arrived from Massacre Bay on Saturday evening with a cargo of limestone. The Union Company's s.s. Taupo, Captain Carey, oame into harbor on Saturday evening shortly before 10 o'clock. She left Onehunga at 11*30 a.m. on Friday, and arrived off New Plymouth early on Saturday morn- . ing ; after, landing passengers and. cargo, sailed for Nelson at 8-45 a.m., arriving here as above. Fine weather marked the run down. She sailed South at 10*30 this morning. - The barque Melrose, Captain Kenny, anchored off the Lighthouse yesterday, after a passage of fifteen days from Newcastle, and was towed into harbor by the steamer Charles Edward this morning and anchored in the stream. She left Newcastle on the 17th instant with moderate winds from the eastward, which gradually hauled round to " the northward, aud continued thence for three days, when light airs brought the vessel across the middle ground, sighting Cape Farewell on Saturday evening, and rounding the Spit at 2 a.m. yesterday, arriviug here as above. She brings a cargo of coal consigned to Mr J. S. Cross, jun. - The Union Company's. s.s. Hawea, Captain Wheeler,, came into harbor at 10 o'clock last evening. She left Port Chalmers at 2*15 p.m. on the Ist inst, and arrived at Lyttelton at 8 a.m. on Friday; left again at 5 p.m., and arrived at Wellington at noon on Saturday; sailed at 2 a.m. yesterday for Picton, arriving there at 7 a.m. ; left for Nelson at 1 1 *.m., but arriving at the Pass too early for the tide the anchor was drqpped, and boats lowered for the purpose of fishing, wheu several schnappers and rOck cod were caught. After a stay of a little over two hours the anchor was weighed, and the Hawea pro- . ceeded on to Nelson, arriving here as above. Fine weather was experienced to Lyttelton. Out from that port to Wellington had a etrong head wind with high sea, thence to Nelson light winds with fine weather. On her last trip South the Hawea proceeded up to Dunedin. We notice that a change has taken -place in the management of the engine room, Mr Cook, late chief enginer of the ■ Taiaroa, being in charge of that department, while Mr Bannatyne, the late chief engineer of the Hawea, has been transferred to the Taiaroa, The Hawea sailed North at I p.mCaptain Kennedy having resigned command of the s.s. Easby, Captain W. Anderson is now in charge of that vessel.
