' ' While there ia life there's hope,' he cried.' t " SEgroto, dum animas est, spes est." DR. L. L. SMITH (The only legally-qualified Medical man advertising), consults — On all affestiona of the Nervou. System (no matter from what cause arising) ; on all broken-down Constitutions ; on all Diseases arising from early Indiscretions ; on Gout ; on Rheumatism. IN these Colonies, those excesses which we have indulged in "hot youth" tell upon us with fearful interest. Our regrets are useless, our repinings fulile. The sole idea should be the chances we possess of remedying the ills we already have, or combating the effects likely to result. Hide it as he may— put on as good an exterior as he can— still is the victim conscious that he is a living lie, and that sooner or later his vices will discover him to the world. Our Faith— our obligations to society at large— tbe welfare of our future offspring— and the duty we owe to ourselves — forbids procraati nation, and points out to us not to wait till the ravages break out in our constitutions. Before negotiating with a merchant ■, before engaging with a confidential clerk; before employing a barrister— a careful man makes inquiries as to their standing j and, in the case of a legal adviser, both as to his legal qualifications and aa to hia capabilities of transacting tbe individual business he consults him upon. Strange to aay, however, in the selection of a medical man, the sufferer frequently omits thesa necessary precautions, and without regard to the fitness, qualification, experience, and ability for the particular ailment requiring treatment, be consults the uearest man, whose experience and practice, perhaps, lies in quite an opposite direction. Is it astonishing that so many are driven read, are rained in health, and are bankruptin spirits, hope, and money? Have I not, for years, pointed out to them that I, Dr. L. L, Smith, am ihe only legally-qualified medical matt advertising in the Colonies? Have I. not also pros.cut.d, at ray own expense, the.e vtry quacks, and exposed the various nostruma t_ey are selling— such as Phosphodyne, Eisence of Life, &c— and had them analyse^, and found thtm to oonsist of *• Burnt sugar and Savoring matter," and the certificates I have pkoved to be all forgeries, lt is for this reason that I etep out of the ethics of the profession and advertise, to give those who requrie the services of my branch an opportunity of knowing they can consult a legally qualified man, and one moreover who has made this his especial study. Dr L L. Smith is the only legally qualified medical man advertising, and he has b.en in Melbourne 24 years in full practice on Nervous Diseases Loss of Powtr and Debility Syphilitic Affections Want of Condition Gout and Rheumatism. Dr. L. L. SMITH can beconsulted by letter —Fee J6l. Medicines forwarded to all the colonies. Da. L. L. SMITH, 182 Collins st. East. (Late tbe Residence of tho Governor), MELBOUENE. 2 In
