The usual monthly meeting of the . Neiaon Education Baard was held yeav ;Berday. '•_.- Present: Massrs. Barnicoat (chairman), Lai^hton,. Campbell, Jackson, Shephttrd, Rout, Malcolm, Hill, Fairhall, Condell, Broad, Burn, CatSey, Etill, Percy, and the Bishop of Nelson. The miuutea of the last meeting were read and confirmed. A letter Irono the City Council, referring to tbe proposed addition to Haven-road school, having been read, it was resolved that the further con- . alteration of this question be deferred until tbe plane for the extension of tbe railway are settled. -Resolved — That after hearing the Inspector's report, Mr. Fisher's tender for No. 1, Westport, be accepted. Resolved — That £5 18a be set apart for varnishing and spouting at Happy TOey. Reeolved— That the question of allowing a second assistant at Lower . Wakedeld be deferred until after the completion of the addition to tbe school-room. Resolved— That £5 be allowed for fencing the school ground at Hope. A letter having been read from the Pangatotara Committee, recommending the removal of the school to a safe site, it was resolved that no action be taken until further information be obtained from the Local Committee as to what sites are procurable, and also as to the probable whereabouts of the populatioa in future. Resolved — That Mr. Grooby be requested to suspend the carrying out of his contract for removing the master's house at Pemgatotara until further notice. Resolved— That an additional sum of £29 be granted to the f •obden Committee to enable them to complete the proposed works at Cobden and Brunnerton, this making in all a grant of £91 10a. Resolved— -That the correspondence between the Secretary and the Minister of Justice be referred to the Finance Committee. A letter was read from Messrs. Powell and Co., requesting that a clause giving them the right of removing 1 and selling any buildings they might erect on No. 594, Westport, should be included in their lease of that seotioa. The Secretary was instructed to inform the applicants that no such clause could be inserted in the lease.
