GENERAL SYNOD.
The Synod met at 3-30 p.m. yesterdays - On the motion of the Dean of Christctiuf eh it was resolved, That the draft petition to "both Houses of the Legislature- be adopted by the Synodj and that the Most,.. Rev the Primate be requested to sign the same -on behalf of the Synod, and to take the necessary steps for causing it to be presented to-the Legislative Council and the House of Representatives. V ■ On the motion of the Bishop of Wellingleave was granted to bring in a hillf or establishing Diocesan Boards for the purpose of considering the general fitness -,f or : . the ministry »f candidates for Deacons' orders. On the motion of the Rev J. C. Andrew itwas resolved. That the question of the incorporation of Trusts be referred to a Select Committee, consisting of the Bishop of Auckland, Archdeacon Stock, Messrs Hanmer, Pitt, Quick, and the mover; to report in fourdays, j The Ecclesiastical Tribunal Statute was further considered in Committee, reported with amendments, and the third reading fixed for to-morrow. ■ ' ' ' <■ ' ~ V The second reading of the Statute 4 Ameudment Bill was negatived after con-' siderable discussion, the result of the division* being as follows:— Ayes: Bishops, 2; Clergy, 12; Laity, 10. Noes: Bishops, 3; Clergy, 6; Laity, 6. ' " : he Synod at its rising ■ adjourned till 3-30 to-day, will meet at six, and adjourn until 8-30 p.m., as evening service will be held ih the Churches.
