The certificates awarded by tho Board of Theological Studies were distributed this afternoon by the Most llev the Primate. As the proceedings were uot over untilij nearly four o'clock, we are unable to publish a report of them to-day. Messrs Hart. Searell, and Company, after a most successful season in Blenheim, will give their first performance in Nelson this evening. In our advertising columns to-day will be found the list of prizes offered for the next Horticultural Show, to be held on the 2nd of March. Several of the licenses for runs in the Amuri being about to expire shortly, the Waste Lands Board afc their last meeting
determined upon despatching Mr Greenfield, the Commissioner of Crown Lands, and Mr Wastney to that district to see the country and report on it, prior to granting fresh leases. These gentlemen started on their journey this afternoon. The All England cricket match is to take place iv Victory Square to-morrow, commencing at one p.m. Some changes have been made iv the local team in consequence of C. Cross and S. Powell's inability to attend, and the following names have been added to the list already published:— Captain Cornwall, Messrs H. Knapp, Silcock, C. Halliday, and Barnetfc. We understand that Mr Curtis has despatched Mr Shallcrass to Motueka to ascertain what families have been rendered destitute by the late flood, with a view to distributing such Government relief as may be considered necessary; For those who have lost their houses a temporary home will be provided in the Immigration Barracks. Me. T. H. Proctor announces that he has arrived with a large assortment of spectacles of the very best description, which he will have on sale at the Masonic Hotel until three p.m. to-morrow. The house occupied by Mr Andrews near the College had a narrow escape from being destroyed by fire this morning, owing to. the flames extending from some gorae which was beiug burnt close by along a quantity of long dry grass until they were in unpleasantly close proximity to the house. Mr Andrews despatched his son for assistance, and some members of the Fire Brigade happening to be near the hose station on the Waimea road they went up with a couple of lengths of hose, and speedily extinguished the flames. A ."---.ver service, consisting of a handsome centre piece and two side pieces was presented the other day to Mr J. S. Thompson, of the house of Thompson, Shannon, aud Co., of Wellington, by the employes of the firm on the occasion of his departure for England. Pkemature Deoay. — From inherent weakness, overwork, continued exposure to unwholesome air or sudden variations of temperature, from business care, sorrow, or other causes, the constitutions of many persons prematurely decay. Under such circumstances, a wise discrimination should be exercised in selecting the material wherewith to repair dilapidation and restore the human edifice.
