The Nelson Evening Mail. SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 1877.
We are indebted to Captain Clouston for' the following report of the rainfall during the seven days ending last night:— Feb. 3rd, 0-24 inches; 4th, l*88in ; sth, -99in ; 6th, l-56in ; 7th, 0-95in; Bth, 0-58in; 9th, o'43in; total, 6-63 inches. In consequence of the All-England Eleven not arriving until this evening, the sale of booth sites is postponed until Monday. The evening service in the Bridge-street Baptist Church to-morrow will be conducted by the Rev A. Hamilton, from England. Dr. Skae, the Inspector of Lunatic Asylums, was a passenger from Auckland by the Taranaki yesterday, and will remain in Nelson a few days. We hear that an immense amount of damage has been done to property in Riwaka by the late flood. Full particulars have not yet reached us, but we learn that Mr Fry is the principal sufferer, of the 500 acres that constitute his farm there being less than ten that are not covered with debris or converted into a shiugle-bed. Fob some reason or other the Motueka mail did not arrive in town by this afternoon's train. The following Bishops and Clergy will preach to-morrow in the churches named: — Christ Church, morning, the Ven. Archdeacon Harper ; evening, the Bishop of Auckland. All Saints, morning, the Bishop of Dunedin; evening, the Ven. Archdeacon Maunsell. Stoke, Rev. E. Fancourt. Clifton, afternoon, the Most Rev. the Primate. Richnion I, morning, the Very Rev. the Dean of Christchurch; evening, the Ven. Archdeacon Harper. Wakefield, afternoon, the Ven. Archdeacon Stock. Some weeks ago it was advertised that the Horticultural Society's Autumn Show would be held early in March, but since then we have heard nothing more of it, and people are in doubt whether it is to take place or not. It would be well if a notification of the day on which it is to be held were issued at once, in order to give intending exhibitors time to make their arrangements. It will be seen by advertisement that it is proposed to dispose of the clipper yacht Secret by art union, and that a limited number of tickets have been reserved for Nelson, at which port we shall be very pleased to see her delivered to her future owner. Several tickets have already been taken here, and probably many more will be before the list closes. A meeting of the Board of Theological Studies is to be held in the Provincial Hall on Tuesday afternoon at three oclock, when certificates gained at the recent examinations will be presented by the Most Rev the Primate. It will be seen that the public are invited to attend. The anniversary of the Wesleyan Sunday School at Stoke will be celebrated to-morrow, when services will be preached by Mr Wood. The usual tea party will be held on the following Tuesday. When four thousand disinterested physicians certify to the excellence of an invigorative stimulant, sceptics as to efficacy — if there be any— might as well retire to "a back seat." Such an indorsement carries conviction to the mind of all rational persons. The above number of medical men have over their own signatures, emphatically confirmed the popular* verdict long since rendered in favor of. Udolpho Wolfe's Schiedam Aromatic Schnapps. — Advt.
