A number of the mosquito fleet, which had been detained through stress of weather, made sgil last evening, and took their departure for their several destinations. ' In spite of the bad weather the schooner Colonist ballasted yesterday, apd took advantage of the S.E. wind blowing at high water in the evening to take her departure for the Manukau. The Union Company's s.s. Taranaki, Capt. Andrew, came into harbor at 7*30 this morning. She left Onehunga at 3-45 p.m. on Wednesday,- and arrived off Taranaki at 6 : 35 a.m. yesterday; after a stay of three hours and a half, during which passengers and cargo were landed, proceeded on to Nelson, and arrived here as above: Moderate weather was experienced to Taranaki, but from thence had strong S.E. winds with heavy .head sea, causing the vessel to jump about a: great deal, and large quantities of water occasionally came, over the bows. It being rather dangerous to force her against the heavy sea, the engines were eased, and of course progress was slower, the steamer (barely catching this morning's tide. The Taranaki sailed Sonth this afternoon at three o'clock.. .
