The Nelson Evening Mail. TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 1877.

The monthly meeting of tbe Auxiliary Fire Brigade was held at their Hall, the Port, last evening, There was a large attendance, Captain Garrard. in the chair., After some routine business had beeu transacted, the following officers were elected for the ensuing year:— Captain, J. Garrard; Secretary-, , W- • Akersten; Treasurer, W. Duckett; Lieutenant, T. Calder; First Hydrantman, J. Lukins; second ditto, W Simpson; • First Brj-nchman, J. Infield ; second ditto, W. Johnston; Foreman Hook and Ladder Company, M. Bernard; Foreman Reel Company, J. Calder; Enginehouse Keeper, W. Morris; Assistant Secretary, J. Pilkingtoh; Lib .urian, W. Morris. The balance sheet for the past year was submitted to the meeting, showing the Brigade to be in a good healthy cond£. tion. During the past twelve months the Hall has been thoroughly renovated, and in addition to the internal improvements a new roof has been put on it. The Brigade can now boast of a small but useful library. A vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the proceedings. The following communication received from the Secretary of the Port Nieholson Rowing Club shows that the efforts of the Interprovincial Regatta Committee to make things pleasant for our visitors at the recent regatta have met with full appreciation in at least one quarter:—" To the Secretary of the Nelson Regatta Committee.— Sir: I bave the pleasure of announcing to you that at the last general meetiugof the Port Nicholson Rowing Olub a resolution was passed to the effect thafc the Nelson Regatta Committee and Secretary be thanked for their kind and courteous attention to tbe members who were appointed by the club to. represent it at the Nelson Interproviucial Regatta held on the 17th and 18th January, 1877. lam still further authorised to state that the club will always hold in grateful remembrance their visit to Nelson, and they hope that the time is not far distant when they will have au opportunity afforded tbem of returning the kind and courteous treatment which they experienced during their visit to your town. And now allow me to subscribe myself, ou behalf of the P.N.R.C, E. Eagar Hon. Secretary." . ' At the final meeting of the Interproviricial Regatta Committee held last night, Mr J A. Harley in the chair, the Treasurer's balance sheet duly audited was read It showed that tbe total receipts from all sources were £644 13s, and that the expenditure amounted to £640 lis 7d, leavin» a balance of £4 ls sd, in addition to which there were some £6 or £7 of promised subscriptions which might be collected. It was moved by MrGollop and seconded by Mr Everett " That a cordial vote of thanks be passed to Mr Bunny for his efficient services as Secretary, and in addition the sum of £5 5s be voted to purchase some article of jewellery as a slight return for the same." Prior to the vote being put Mr Buuny thanked the meeting very heartily for the kindly feeling displayed towards" him, but hoped that they would uot vote any money for such a purpose. The committee however would not listen to his objection but passed the vote unanimously. A vote of thanks to Mr Symons was proposed by Mr Everett and carried unanimously for his liberality in placing the Government wharf at the di*---

A further >ote of thanks was passed to the Press for their liberality in supplementing their cash subscriptions by reducing their accounts against the Committee by one half. The nieeting then broke up amid a general expression that the experience gained at the late regatta would tend to render the next one more successful. We are requested to state that the sale of rams and ram lambs advertised by MessrsSharp aud Pickering to take place to-morrow has been postponed until Wednesday, the Hth instant. . Mb. George Donne notifies that he >ill receive up to Thursday next offers for the sole right of advertising on the backs of the railway tickets for a peiiod.of twelve mohtnab.
