The Nelson Evening Mail. MONDAY, JANUARY 15, 1877.

Public attention ' is likely tq be be pretty evenly divided to^nighfc between Messrs'.!" Cuds and Sharp's meeting at the Provincial Hall, commencing at eight o'clock, the Calcutta Sweeps on, the forthcoming, boat races, which will be held at M'Gee/s Hotel, and' the performance of the Star Bijbu.Troupe at.the , - Masonic Hall. ' ' ' There, ia noti often such a n choice of entertainments in Nelson. „V' „. : . At thV'Resideht'-Maeistrate'£' Court this |morning the solitary case heard was that of Huuter v. Under all the circumstances, perhaps it is just as well that it , . should be so. '- * •■■'-. ' , A new organ has been recently imported . into Wellington for St. Paul's Church, and a : short time ago we'/iverjetoid by.thie Post'hofi/ it was to be placed in position by a" professional builder, who was to go lip from Dunedin for the purpose, and not by amateurs, as , was the case in Nelson, where by accident the instrument was put together nearly right. The improved style in which these things are done in Wellington is now shown by the fact that the chamber specially erected for the organ has been made too small, and that part of the roof must be cut away be- . fore the instrument caii be fitted in. Why did they not send for some, amateurs from Nelson, so that everything might have been., done at least nearly right. ■ Madame Fritz Karl's Star Troupe are to give a . series of entertainments m Nelson commencing this evening ; 'at the Masonic Hall. The company comprises Miss Marion Lyston, who is said to be an excellent vocalist; singing both serious and comic' songs equally well, Mr Charles Keeley, a most amusing comic actor, Mr Shipp the well known champion clog and pedestal dancer, and Herr Schott, who plays several instruments with great ability. His solos on the oboe are said to be marvels of taste and artistic skill, and . we are told that he astonishes all who have heard his performances on the " Liguridzolosophone." If the sounds he extracts from this mysterious instrument are anything like those produced by an attempt to pronounce its name, it is not to be wondered at if people are astonished by the player's performances on it.; The entertainment concludes with' a laughable farce acted by Messrs Shipp and Keejey.
