WAIMEA ROAD BOARD.
Satcrday, January 6. At the monthly meeting held this day at the Richmond Institution, the following members were present :— Messrs White (chairman), Bell, Barnicoat, Harley, and Win. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The Overseer "made the following report:— " Some of the day labor men are availing themselves of the privilege of being absent from the works during the harvest, the others have been employed on the bye-roads. I should recommend that tenders be invited for the supply of 800 yards of metal at the different depots at Stoke; as this will have to come from the beach it had better be got as soop after harvest as possible. As regards the gravel for Waimea East, will you accept suitable metal at the usual price per yard where offered, or invite tenders for a supply? Some could begot from the gravel pits at Richmond and Ranzau. In July last, . I reported that the south approach to the footbridge at Bell Grove was carried away by the floods, and has not since been repaired; one serious accident has occurred here in consequence. The fordway has been attended to at a cost of £3 6s; ifc requires a similar amount to be expended to .make it permanent. During the past month I have had to employ a man on the Stanley Brook road; his services will be necessary for another monjh to put in culverts on the Dovedale line. Mr Osborne has completed his contract, brick culvert by Dron's, £2. ls 3d. Mr E. Siggelkow has not repaired the damage done by him to the road in Redwood's Valley, although fepeatedly instructed to do
so. M. .Smith,- the valuer, requesting an extension of -time for completing the valuation, heFSnding it impossible to finish in the prescribed time. Letters were received from the Secjetary of the Motueka Board,' urging the desirability of completiug the road between Thorpe and Oronoco as soon as possible, and offering to pb-.nt out the line marked out some time ago. ;;-:;
