Blenheim, Monday. A fire broke out last night in Messrs Paul Brothers' Stable3at Moorlands, Spring Creek. The stables were totally destroyed, as also was the valuable entire horse True Briton and some harness. The horse Royal Conqueror was saved. The origin of the fire is unknown. The loss is £400, and the insurance wa3 £200 in the South British. Port Chalmers, Monday. The p.s. Coomerang has arrived from Chasland's Mistake, bringing Captain Calder and the officers and seamen of the steamer Otago. The gold was recovered by Captain Calder and landed before the party by the Coomerang arrived. The ship still holds together. The petty officers and a constable were left at Chasland's Mistake to prevent pillage. A Court of inquiry is to be held. Wellington, Monday, Mr Hutchinson has been elected Mayor without opposition. Auckland, Saturday. In the Sculling Handicap to-day, the Auckland Rowing Club's Fly beat the Spider yb nearly a minute. At Hokianga the body of a chief named Wiremu, which had been neglected after death, was entirely eaten by dogs. The Presbyterian General Assembly has appointed a committee to request the Government that the Presbyteriau Church be represented on the Senate of the New Zealand Uuiversi y. In reply to overtures from Christchurch aud Hawkes Bay upon the supply of ministers, the Assembly resolved that all Presbyteries of the Church be authorised to appoint tutors to conduct, in the form best suited to their respective circumstances, theological studies for students looking forward to the ministry. The Assembly passed a resolution expressive of satisfaction at hearing of the weal of the Canterbury Church Extension Association.

The Rev. J. Robertson, of Melbourne; has accepted the pastoral charge of the Congregational Church, at Auckland.

Dunedin, Saturday. In a quarrel at Mosgiel, Mr O'Brien the lecturer for the American War Panorama, bad his eye gouged. He suffered severely, but wili not lose his sight. The result of the Ladies' Shield contest was in favor of the City Guards; Bruce Rifle., second event, and East Taieri third and fourth. In the aggregate prize firing, the first prize was taken by Sub-Lieutenant Wilcox, Clutha: second, W. Wilcox, Clutha.

At the Wa'ton Park Coal. Company's annual meeting, it was stated that the profits for the year amounted to fifteen hundred pounds. Mr Blight's lecture was thinly attended. He gives a se-ies of Sunday evening lec.ures under the auspices of a committee.

Balcldtha, Saturday. Dissatisfaction is felt in this County at the manner in which the elections are being conducted. Many of the Returning Officers are too late in their instructions to enable them to comply with the Act, and were not supplied with Acts or forms of any kind. In many cases the officers were instructed by the Resident Minister to write out simple notices of election, and post them somewhere in their Ridiugs; this was done, and is the only notice the large scattered country districts have received. Not an Act can be procured without sending to Wellington, and the elections will be over before many of the public can now know anything about it. Grahamstown, Saturday. Considerable interest is beiug taken in the County elections. Already four candidates are out for Oh-nemuri Riding, and all the seats in the County Council will probably be warmly contested. Dr. Kilgour, and Messrs M'Donald and M'Nabb, have been nominated for the Mayoralty. The master of the schooner Fairlie was fined £5 to-day for carrying away the telegraph wLes across the Thames River.
