The Nelson Evening Mail. FRIDAY, DECEMBER 8, 1876.

Thb elections for five out of the seven Hidings in the County of Waimea are to tako place somewhat hurriedly, the nominations being advertised for Thursday next, and the polling for the 22nd instant. The elections for the Ridings of Motueka and Wangapeka will have to be held somewhat later, as the 10th section of the " Eegulations of Local Elections Act, 1876," provides that " not less than fourteen clear days before any election to fill an ordinary vacancy, the Returning Officer shall give public notice thereof," &c, and there is not that time to elapse between the present date and the 22cd instant. For the information of our readers we publish the 51st section of the *" Counties Act," which makes provisions for the first election of a Council, lt is as follows: —• For the purposes of the first elections to be held under this Act, and of every election in a couuty in which the whole of this Act is not in force, the following persons shall be deemed to be county electors within each riding :—(1.) Every person who is entitled for the time being to vote at a Road Board election in any road district in the riding. (2.) Every person not so entitled who is for the time beiug entitled to vote at an election of a member of the House of Representatives upon a qualification in any outlying district in the riding. (3.) Any legal holder of a miner's right which shall have been issued within the electoral district in which the riding or part thereof is included not less than thrae months prior to the election. There are but a very few days to elapse before that appointed for the nomination, and the electors have no time to lose in selecting the men whom they wish to bring forward as candidates. The nominations, as will be seen by the advertisement, are to be lodged with the Returning Officers at the appointed places before noon on Thursday next.
