The Wallace discharged her cargo at Opunake early this morning, and sailed for Wanganui between six and seven, and should arrive there this afternoon. She will sail for Nelson to-mo_row. The Murray arrived from Wellington last night, and. sailed for West Coast ports at 1 p.m. to-day. The Taupo is due to-night from New Plymoufchrand will sail for the South to-morrow morning. The City of New York sailed from Auckland for Kandavau, with the San Francisco mail, yesterday afternoon. The trip will scarcely be a remunerative one, aa she had only eleven saloon, and eight steerage passengers.. The ketch Lily of the Wave sailed this morning for Wangamoa. The schooner Australian Maid sailed for Awaroa last evening. The cutters Planet and Maid of Italy arrived this morning with cargoes of produce, the former from Motueka, and the latter from Riwaka. The steamer Maori arrived from West Coas Sports shortly before eight o'clock last evening, after a good run up. She did not remain long in harbor, but sailed for Lytteiton shortly after her arrival. The s,s. Kennedy, Captain Palmer, returned to port this morning at 5*30. She left Nelson on Wednesday, the 15th inst., at 11 a.m., arriving at Westport, after a moderately fine passage, afc 5 a.m. on Thursday; left at 11 p.m. for Hokitika, crossing that har at 9 a.m. on Friday; sailed for Greymouth at. 9 at.m. ! on Saturday, arriving at 11 o'clock; left again at noon on Sunday, arriving at Westport at 730 p.m.; left for Nelson on Monday at 11 ,a.m., and, after a smooth water passage, arrived here as above. She will sail for Wellington at 7 p.m. to-morrow. Mr John : Helier Le Viscomte, a master mariner, was charged before Alderman Sir Robert Carden and Alderman Sir Andrew Lusk, .M.P., with embezzlement. The prisoner was the Captain of the Glenlora, trading between London and Auckland, and belonging to Messrs Shaw, Saville & Co., of Leadenhall-st. On a recent voyage he was i.93 deficient in his accounts, but that was looked :over. On his return with his ship a few diyj3 since from Auckland, he produced vouchers -showing a further deficiency of £292 odd,„.of which he could not offer any explanation 1 . He was accordingly given into custody. The prisoner pleaded "guilty, and was strongly recommended to mercy. It was urged on his behalf that he had been nineteen "years. captain in the merchant service, and that his conviction would cause the loss of hi_ certificate, and, in fact, ruin him. Sir Robert Garden said but for the prosecutor's kind recommendation, and the fact that the prisoner Would lose his certificate, the Court would have passed a much heavier sentence, hut, looking at these circumstances, they thought the justice of the case would be met by a punishment of four months' hard labor.
