INTERPROVINCIAL.

Christch*jech, Thursday. The Metropolitan Agricultural Show to-day v/as a grand success, and admitted by all visitors to be the finest in the colony. There were 1)17 entries. The sheep, horses, and cattle were magnificent. There were several competitors from other parts of the colony. Messrs Gillies and Street, of DunediD, took a large number of prizes ia the Leicester class, and a medal for the best Leicester ewe. ; Mr J. B. Sutton, of Southland, took the medal for the best Lincoln on the ground. Oyer 12,000 persons were present. Di*Nt-DiN, Thursday. The Volunteer Review at Waihola was a great success. There were 600 Volunteers and 'fy'OO persons present. Mr Darrell has taken a lease of the Princess Threatre for twelve mont'is commencing on the 11th of • ecembei*. The attendance last night at the convention was over one hundred, aud they sat till one this morning. The first resolution re the recall of the Governor was carried without a division. The second resolution re Otago as a separate province was carried in an amended form thus : — (1.) ** Whereas Otago, against the will of the majority of her people and representatives,- has been practically deprived of a large amount of local self government, and wiil be despoiled cf her revenues by the recent unconstitutional legislation of the Government Assembly. Resolved : ' That a committee of thrte be appointed to draft a petition to Her Majesty setting forth the limited and unequal character of the present representation of "the people, and asking that the rights of tho province of Otago, conferred on her by ib.*} Constitution Act, may be preserved, if not attainable otherwise, by proclaiming her a separate and independent colony. (*2.) That the said committee consist of Messrs Robin, Stout, and the mover.** " Carried almost unanimously. The convention is now sitting to discuss the remainder of the resolutions. On the motion oi Dr. Hodgkinson it was resolved *.-~" That the Abolition ! Act of 1875 is ultra vires and unconstitutional inasmuch as it repeals Imperial ,

legislation without authority so to do, and that the people of Otago should protest against such usurpation of powers by the General Assembly aud appeal to the Imperial Government for justice." The resolutions asking Mr Macandrew to accept the management of Provincial affairs to the 31st December was carried, as also one that Sir George Grey, Mc Macandrew, and Captain Fraser should be sent Home as delegates in the interest of Otago to present the petitions. The Convention expressed its opinion that " The Otago Counties Act 1872," would be more satisfactory than the present County .Act, and the resolution was carried that a Convention meet annually, or at such times as the president or vice-president and Council shall determine; that for purposes of management there be president, vice-presi-dent and council of nine members; that Mr Thompson be appointed president, and Mr Clarke vice-president. Friday. Five thousand persons were carried on the train yesterday. The shearers at Deep Dell station have struck, damanding 20s per 100. They were offered 17s 6d.J Wellington, Friday. Several thousand people were taken to the Upper Hutt yesterday, the six o'clock train alone bringing home about a thousand. This is by far the largest number ever taken here in one train. Port Chalmers Thursday. Captain Carey, of the steamer Taupo, was presented with a massive silver tea and coffee service, valued at forty guineas, with an illuminated address from the officers and crew of the steamer Wellington. There was a numerous attendance.
