L-Ler Alhambra.] Melbourne, November 2. Socially aud politically the last fortnight has been very dull. The Electoral Bill having • passed both Houses the Harbor Trusts Bill has been nightly considered. The Opposition have several times attempted to '* stonewall" the Bill, but the Government insist upon its consideration till passed. Melbourne is now crowded with strangers, and amongst the visitors are the Governors of New South Wales and South Australia. For the next fortnight there will be a perfect round of entertainments. The new Academy of Music will be opened on the 7th by De Murska and her Company. Tbe Government have nearly completed negotiations fo; the purchase of the Hobson's Bay railway. Several new lines will be opeued in the course oj a Cew months, including the line to the westward. The Railway Construction Bill wiil provide for an additional mileage to be undertaken from the loan just launched. The new loan will give £95 5s net, the amount, averaged having been £96 3s 6d. Brandies are very tight, 30s 6d having been pa*d for Hennessy's best bulk. There have been large sales in sugars, but prices are scarcely so firm. New Zealand oa„s, 3s od to 3s 7d; wheat dull at 6s 5d to 6s 6d.
