METROPOLITAN RACE MEETING.
Christchurcii, Tuesday. The, Metropolitan Race Meeting opened to-day. The weather was very unfavorable, with a drizzling rain and cold north-east wind, but the attendance was moderately good. Free Handicap of 50 soys, added to a stveepstakes of 5 soys each. One mile. Mr Ray's Tadmor, Bst I3lbs (Ray)... I Mr Walters' Isaac Walton, Bsfc 81bs ,_ __, (French) 2 Mr Watts' Ngaro, Bst 9lbs (Bremner) 3 Mr Delaniain's Titania, 7st 81bs, also ran. Puugawerewere, 9st, and Maroro, 7st lllbs, wqce seratehed. Tadmor led from the first. Titania got a bad start and was outpaced all through. At the bottom turn Ngaro and Isaac Walton went up to Tadmor, but at the last corner Ngaro fell back, when' Tadmor came away from Isaac Walton and won easily. Time: lniin'_B_secs. Derby Stakes, of 10 soys, with 100 soys added; 1-'- miles, Colts, Bst lOlbs; fillies and geldings, Bst 41bs. Mr Redwood's b c Songster (Lyf ord) 1 Mr Walters* Fanny Fisher colt ■»- -vt . (French) . 2 Mr Nosworthy's b f Fallacy (Hay) 3 Mr Logan's colt Dead Heat (Waddle) 0 Bet.tiugs.to 4 agst Fallacy ,- 2to I agst Fanny Fisher colt; Gto 1 agst Dead Heat Songster, Middleton, Mangle, Danebury Lady Lea, Titania, and Lady of the Lake were scratched. A good start was effected, and _ allacy led but half way round, Dead Heat bolted off the course. Entering the straight the Fanny Fisher colt took the lead, °the other two close up, but half way home Songster showed in front, and after a splendid race won by a length, Fallacy a fair third. Time, 2mius 52. sees. The bookmakers made a pofc on this race, as Songster was backed very little. Railway Plate of 100 soys, weight for age. Half a mile. Mr Nosworthy's Danebury (Watty) 1 Mr Redwood's Guy Fawkes (Lyford) 2 Mr Mallock's Mangle (Bremer) ... 3 Mr Delamain's Pungawerewere ... 0 . Betting 2tol on Guy Fawkes. Fishhook and Ainohia were scratched. It was a bad start, Quy Fawkes losiug seven or eight lengths. Danebury made the running, Mangle second. In the straight Guy Fawkes, came up splendidly, but Danebury won by two lengths, Guy second, Mangle a good third.
