The Kennedy left for West Coast ports at noon to-day. The Charles Ed-.vard left Westport for Nelson this morniug. She will arrive tomorrow morning, and sail for Wellington direct in the evening. The City of New York, with the San Francisco mail, will be due at Auckland ou Sunday next. The Nelson portion will be brought ou by the Wellington, leaving the Mauukau on Tuesday. The schooner Awaroa arrived early this morning from Wauganui, having left that port on Wednesday evening. She has made a good run over, having been in sight at dusk last evening, but there being but very little wind, could not make the harbor in time to save last evening's tide. The schooner Uno has made another quick trip to Adele Island and back. She left here on Wednesday evening and returned this morning. The ketch Lily of the Wave returned to port yesterday afternoon from Waugamoa after an absence of over a fortnight. The youthful skipper has been singularly unfortunate on this his maiden trip, the vessel having got on shore. The schooner Waihopai sailed for Wanganui this morning, but was not many miles away at 4 o'clock. The schooner anchored in the Bay proves to be the Wave of Life, bound from Lyttelton to Greymouth, put in for water. She had not sailed up to the time of our goiug to press. The Alhambra sailed from Melbourne for Hokitika vesterday, and will be due on the Coast on Tuesday next. The Union Company's s.s. Taupo, Captain Carey, arrived off the Lighthouse at 7.15 last evening. She left Ouehuuga at 8.30 a.m. on Wednesday, proceeding under easy steam to Taranaki, and arriving off that port early yesterday morning; landed passengers and cargo, and sailed for Nelson at 6 a.m., arriving here as above. Fine weather was experienced throughout. She sailed South at nine o'clock this morning, carrying passengers to the Canterbury races, and will probably cross the Straits this evening. The s.s. Murray arrived in harbor this morning at 8 o'clock from Wellington. She left Nelson on Wednesday at 7.45 a.m., transshipping passengers ex Kennedy from West Coast, arriving at Wellington at 8 p.m. same day. Experienced Sue weather across. Left "Wellington at 5 p.m. yesterday, bringing passengers and cargo for transhipment to the Kennedy for West Coast. Experienced a strong N.W. breeze across the Straits, the remainder of the passage fine. She was placed on the cradle on arriving here for the purpose of being cleaned and painted, and will sail for West Coast ports on Tuesdaj r at 1 p.m. The Union Company's s.s. Wellington, Captain Lloyd, came into harbor this morning at 7.30. She left Port Chalmers at 1.45 p.m. on the 30th ult, and arrived at Lyttelton at 9.30 on the 31st; left at 5 p.m. same day, went alongside the ship Waimate, and took 15 passengers on board for the jS'orth, arriving at Wellington at 1.30 on Wednesday afternoon; left again at 2.30 p.m. yesterday, arriving at Picton at 7 p.m.; sailed afc 9 p.m., arriving here as above. Fine weather marked the ran up. She sails North at 6 p.m. A society has been formed in France for the formidable purpose of prosecuting " voyages of study" round the world. M. de Lesseps has interested himself in the project and next year a tine steamer oi: 1200 horsepower will take a cargo oE boys, with tutors, regulations, and everything necessary to enjoyment, on a long cruise, in which pleasure is ro be duly seasoned with instruction. The ship will weigh anchor at Havre, and sail for New York, touching at Lisbon, Madeira, and the Bermudas. From Now York the students will proceed to Charleston, Ilavannah, Martinique, Para, llio, and Buenos Ayres. They will avoid Cape Horn, sailing through the Straits of Magellan on to Valparaiso, Callao, Tahiti, Auckland, and Melbourne. From Melbourne the floating school will make for Sydney, pause a moment at Noumea, thenct! proceed to Yeddo, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Bombay, Aden, Alexandria, Naples, and Marseilles, when the young gentlemen will be let loose to teach their aged relatives.
