The Nelson Evening Mail. THURSDAY, OCTOBER 12, 1876.
The Diocesan Synod will meet for the transaction of business on Wednesday next, the 18th iust. The sale of work at the Masonic TTnll will be continued during this evening, when there will be instrumental and vocal music. The articles that are left unsold will be kept in reserve for another occasion, and will not be disposed of by auction as has been stated elsewhere. The adjourned meeting of those desirous of. securing a visit from the All England Eleven will be held at the Masonic Hotel this evening, when the result of the canvass for subscriptions will be made known, and a decision arrived at as to whether Mr Bennett's terms shall be accepted or not. We understand that arrangements have been made for a billiard match to be played between Roberts and Weston on Saturday, commencing at 2 p.m. This will give an excellent opportunity to residents in the country of witnessing the champion's wonderful skill, an opportunity of which we would strongly recommend them to avail themselves.
