The Charles Edward arrived at Ilokitika yesterday morning, and left for Greymouth to-day at noon, tilie will sail from thence for .Nelson via Westport to-morrow, arriving here on Thursday morning. The Kennedy leaves Greymouth for Nelson direct to-day. The Murray has succeeded in landing her stores at Kekerangu, but is unable to take in cargo, owing to the heavy swell that prevails. She will probably return to Nelson direct without accomplishing the object she had in view. The Wallace arrived from Blenheim this morning, and has been placed on the hard for cleaning and painting. The ketch Prospect arrived last evening from Fern Town with a cargo of coal for the Gas Works. The ketch Pearl also arrived from the same place last evening with a. similar cargo. The Union Company's s.s. Hawea, Captain Wheeler, came into harbor last evening shortly after 10 o'clock, aud was berthed alongside the Government Wharf. She left Ouehuuga at uoou on Saturday, proceeded under easy steam to New Plymouth, arriving there at daylight yesterday morning; landed passengers and cargo, and sailed for Nelson at 6.30 a.m., arriving oil the Lighthouse at 8 ji.tn., and entering the harbor as above. She sailed South at 10 o'clock this morning. Messrs M'Meckan, Blackwood, and Co.'s s.s. Albion, Captain J. W. Clarke, arrived yesterday shortly before I p.m., and was berthed at the Commercial Wharf. Fine weather with smooth water characterised the passage throughout. While in Melbourne the Albion was put into dock, and underwent her usual half-yearly overhaul. She brought a large number of diggers for the Kuuiara, also some immigrants for the Jackson's Bay settlement, who will be landed at Hokitika. The Albion sailed for Sydney via West Coast ports at 11 o'clock this morning. The new steamship Wakatipu has already been trying conclusions with one of the Melbourne boats. She left Port Chalmers one hoar and a quarter in advance of the Albion, and arrived at Lytteltou one hour before her, the Albion thus beating her by a quarter of an hour. There was no wind at the time, but the trial was a fair test of steaming powers, both vessels being iu sight of each other the whole way. The Albion had just come out of the dock, and consequently was as fresh as a lily. She was also iu splendid trim, while the same could not be said of the Wakatipu. The Wakatipu sailed from Wellington for Sydney via ilokitika on Saturday morning last, crowded with diggers for Kuuiara.
