THE BREACH IN THE BOULDER BANK.
To the Editor op the 'Evening Mail.' Sir,—l see by your report of the City Council that Councillor Harley brought the matter of the breach iu the Boulder Bank before the Council, but that hon. body seemed to be iu a haze about the matter, and shelved it as not being within their jurisdiction. But, sir, I contend (as I have done before) that they are the only authorised guardians of the city and her surroundings, and if they have not that authority by the Act under which they serve, I wish to suggest that his Worship the Mayor call a public meeting to ascertain what steps to take in order to get that authority for them, or to ask the Parliament to pass an Act for a Harbor Board as many other places are now doing. I also beg to remind the people of Nelson that the gap in the breakwater is more likely to increase than dimmish, and I think there is ballast enough now inside the Boulder Bank for all out-going vessels, or colliers, for some time to come, therefore there is no need of having an other opening to let more in. —I am, &c, E. Obu.
