The Nelson Evening Mail. WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 4, 1876.
At a meeting of the Comtnitfcee of the Naval Brigade held last evening, it was announced that No. 1 gun detachment had handed iu to the Company the ordnance prize won by them in the late contest, which was presented to the detachment on Thursday evening last. The amount of the prize ia £'h 10s. It was announced afc the Opera last night that the performance this evening would be for Madame Simonaen's benefit, and moreover, that in addition to the Opera of La Perichole, there would be a concert, in which M. Simonsen, who is well known as a renowned violinist, would take part. This and "The last rose of summer " by Madame Simonsen should in themselves be sufficient to attract even a larger audience than that of last night. The Company will proceed to Lyttelton by the "Wellington to-morrow morning, so that this will be the last opportunity of hearing them. A sbemon on the death of the late Mrs "VVagg will be preached at the Wesleyan Church this evening by the liev G-. S. Harper. An extraordinary general meeting of shareholders in the Para Para Iron and Coal Company will be held at the Masonic Hall this evening at half-past seven. The business to be transacted is stated in the advertisement. J Tiie Dinner Committee of the Nelson Volunteer Fire Brigade are requested to meet at the Fire Station this evening at half-past seven. The Howard Lodge of Odd-Fellows' will meet at M'Gee's Hotel this evening at eight o'clock. The Westland Central Board of Education have adopted the plan of calling for tenders for insurance of all school buildings and materials throughout the province.
