The ship Howrah, now 69 days out from London, has 299 passengers, equal to 257 statute adults, on board. They are to be distributed as follows : — Nelson, 99 souls; Westiand, 71; Marlborough. 42; Wellington, 87. The Howrah, being a _a_t ship, may be looked for during this month. The ketch Pearl sailed last evening for Waitapu, proceeding from thence to Fern Town, where she will load up M'ith coal for this port. The schooner Uno arrived this morning from Adele Island with a cargo of stone, which she discharged at the rear of the Custom House Hotel. The schooner Awaroa came into harbor last evening from Waugauui, having left that port on Saturday evening last. She experienced little or no wind across, which accounts for the rather long passage. The Awaroa brings a cargo of live stock. She is advertised to sail again for Wanganui on Thursday. We mentioned in our issue of Friday last that there was a probability of a race taking place between the steamers Kingarooma and Wakatipu. We have since learned, however, that the latter boat received orders to proceed to Port Chalmers direct, aud, as the Kingarooma had to proceed to Lytteiton first, there was no possibility of a race between these steamers. The Wakatipu is described us a handsome boat, fitted up elaborately, with steerage accommodation equal to the saloon of any of our coasting steamers. It is right af fc, aud is so much like a saloon that a gentleman in Sydney who intended coming to New Zealand by her, and who had a cabin ticket, going by mistake into the steerage, was so satisfied with the accommodation that he immediately went back to the shipping office and got his ticket changed, and came down to New Zealand iu the steerage. The Wakatipu leaves Wellington for Syduey via Hokitika, at which port she will laud passengers for the Kumara diggings, on Friday next. The following are the insurances on the steamer Matau :— Standard, £10u0; National, .£1250 (re-insured in Australian Alliance for .£500) ; Victoria, £1500 ; South British, .£1000; New Zealand, £1000; Globe, £750; liatavia, £500; National, of South Australia, .£SOO. The National, of New Zealand, have also £700 on cargo. The silver medal of the Royal Humane Society has been awarded to Lieutenant Isaacs, of the Narcissus, 28, screw frigate, Captain Lord Charles Scott, flagship of RearAdmiral Rowley Lambert, C.8., commanding the detached squadron. On the 6th September last, when entering Simon's Bay, an ordinary seaman fell overboard insensible. Lieutenant Isaacs, though the ship was steaming nine knots, jumped oil! the poop, a height of 2 • feet, and, reaching tiie man, . upportcd him until they were picked up by one of the ship's boats. — Miwiiell's liegister.
