INTERPROVINCIAL.
Christchurch, Tuesday. At a meeting of the Chairmen of the North Canterbury Road Boards it was resolved that the province should only be divided into two counties, the southern boundary of the northern county to be at the south branch of the Waimakariri, and the north boundary to extend as far into Nelson and Marlborough as thoir interests are identical with Canterbury. Wellington, Monday. It is understood that writs have been taken out by Sir George Grey aud Mr Rees against each member of tbe Ministry, to enforce the penalty for sitting in the Legislature while disqualified. The writs have not yet been served, but if the Ministerial Statement tonight is not satisfactory they will probably be served to-morrow. Sir Julius Vogel bas issued his farewell address to his Wanganui constituents. It is pretty much a repetition of what he stated in the House. Pokt Chalmers, Monday. Sailed— Hawea. Passenger for Nelson — Mr Short. Dunedin, Monday. Roberts has challenged Weston to play a billiard match for £500 a side, giving him 500 out of 1000. Little Nell is doing a good business here. The Harbor Board this afternoon agreed to the suggestion of the Engineer to submit the plans for the Harbor works to Mr Blackett, Mr Simpson goes to Wellington in charge of the plans. Tuesday. Roberts played his first match in Dunedin at the Temperance Hall last night. Nesbitt, his opponent, is a native of Nelson, and has the reputation of being a first class player. I He received 600 points out of 1000 from Roberts. Towards the close of the game it became very exciting, Nesbitt eventually winning by 56 points, the score being Roberts, 946; Nesbitt, 1002. The champion made 22 consecutive hazards from his favorite spot stroke, and his longest break was 120. Immense applause greeted the winner at the conclusion of the game. This evening Roberts plays Manson, of Invercargill, again, giving him 600 out of 1000. Manson is said to have the honor of beating Roberts by more points tban anyone else since he has been champion. Auckland, Monday. The Helen Denny sailed from Gra;esend for Nelson on the 7th of July.
