An entertainment and dance is advertised to take place at the Port Fire Brigade Hall this evening afc eight o'clock. A similar entertainment was given in the same place about five weeks ago, and was largely patronised, the low price of admission and varied character of the programme haviug gone a long way towards securing a full house. In addition to these attractions, and as a further inducement for to-night refreshments can be obtained in the Hall at moderate rates. The next outward San Francisco mail wili leave Nelson by the Ladybird on Tuesday nexfc, the 19th instant. The inward mail will arrive here by the Wellington on Saturday. The interests of Nelsoa appear to be the very last, thing considered by the Post Office authorities. Our outward mail is to be despatched two days earlier than there is any necessity for, and, with fche exception of Marlborough and the West Coast, we shall, although within thirtysix hours steam of Auckland, be the last i part of the colony to receive the inward mail, which will have beeu ia the country nearly six days before it reaches us. The anniversary of the Hardy-street Wesleyan Church will be celebrated by a tea meeting, which will be held in the schoolroom, this evening. The ' usual attendant to such gatherings, a public meeting, will be held afterwards, when addresses will be delivered by several ministers and other friends. During the evening some pieces will be sung by the choir. A meeting of the members of the Nelson Crickefc Club will be held afc the Masonic Hotel to-morrow evening at half-past seven. It is hoped that there will be a good attendance, as there is a lively season in store for our cricketers, visiting teams being expected from Taranaki, Wellington, Marlborough, and possibly Auckland and Christchurch. The Post, in noticing Mr Andrew's appointment to the head mastership of the Nelson College, says: — " He is recognised as one of fche most accomplished scholars of whom New Zealand can boast, and we have no doubfc thafc his appointment will be regarded as an eminently satisfactory one." Mr Andrew, we understand, was one of twenty-three applicants for the post. The College will still retain the advantages of Mr Mackay's services as mathematical master and head of the boarding department.
