W FOOT v. THE HAND. QUNCE the introduction of Hand Sewing Machines, attempts have constantly been made to prove that they are fit to supersede the original Treadle Machines, but intending purchasers are requested to examine the matter and decide for themselves whether their claims are well founded, and whether also the objections raised (frequently by interested parties) to the use of the Treadle ebn be sustained by faots. The advertiser submits that each kind of machine is good in its proper place, — the " Hand " for those youog ladies who may have occasion frequently to change their place of abode, or for those who are unable to give the small amount of time and trouble necessary to learu thoroughly the art (once acquired, of life long value), of using a "Treadle" Machine, and also for the very few who are physically unable to use the foot motion. But when the lady of the house desires to do a large quantity of sewing in the best manner, and ia the least possible time, A good Treadle Machine is unequalled. That the use of the feet iu sewing is injurious to health is a matter upon which the " Doctors differ," and any lady anxious upon that point would do well to consult her own medical adviser, who, in giving bis opinion, would perhaps make some slight distinction between the probable effects ot using a Machine which requires much power to drive it, and one which runs lightly, as does the " Wheeler and Wilson. The undersigned invites inspection pf his stock of Machines suitable for all ordinary work, and will bo happy to procure to order from best makers Machines required for special purposes. A new iot of HAND MACHINES to arrive per ' Lutterworth,' direct from the makers, comprising both "Taylor's Improved," and "Taylor's Friction Wheel." HAND MACHINES sold for Cash, aud TREADLE MACHINES either for Cash or for " time payment," and Prices are now Eeduced ! w. c WILKINS, IRONMONGER, BRIDGE-STREET, nelson. August, 1876. 2360 WHICH IS THE BEST SEWING MACHINE ? THIS is a question often aaked. Formerly I was in favor of a well-known Trea lie Machine, but as theTrealle9 hare, in so many cases, proved inj unous to health.we are in duty bound to aim at the product ! on of a HAND MACHINE of the beat description. Out of the number thtt have competed for the honor of being the best, I have always given the preference to " The Household 5 " but as Mr Taylor, of England, has so improved his Machines, I was induced to try some, and flndingjthe improvements beyond ray expectations, I have now my First Shipment of the FRICTION WHEEL HAND MACHINES. It is worked without either belt or cogwheel. Inspection invited to the largest stock of TAYLOR'S PATENT MACHINES ever before imported into Nelson. A few Fissr-CLtss Tbeadlh Machines on Sale Half their original cost ! All kinds of Machine) Rrpaibhd or Adjusted on the premises. Nee lies, Extras, and Pure Machine Oil on Sale In small quantities.
