We understand that Mr Millar, F.S.A., is about to bring an action against tbe Provincial Government for wrongful dismissal, damages being laid at £190 in order to allow of its being brought in the District Court, whose jurisdiction is limited to £200. The case will be heard on Monday next.

Our friends at Stoke have for some time past been making preparations for an entertainment wbich is to be/ given in their Public Hall on Wednesday evening next. The chief feature of the entertainment will be a monster Christmas Tree laden with all sorts of pretty and useful little articles, which will be disposed of by tickets to be purchased at a very low rate in the Hall. There will also be music and singing during tbe evening. A special train will leave Nelson at half-past six and run on to Richmond, whence it will return to Stoke. It will leave Stoke again for Richmond at 9*45, and return at once to Nelson.

The half-yearly meeting of the members of tbe Naval Brigade will be held at the Custom House Hotel to-morrow evening at half-past seven o'clock, and not at the lire Brigade Hall, as advertised in Saturday's issue.
