A telegram from Greymouth states that there is no safe ehunnel at Hokitika yet, and as the tides will commence to fall off to-mor-row there will be no chance of improvement after that date. In consequence of this the Kennedy is still lying at Greymouth. The Murray will leave for Karatnea and West Co«st ports to-morrow at 2 p.m. The Wallace left Westport for Nelson at eleven o'clock this morning. She will sail for Blenheim at 6 p m. to-morrow. The schooner Awaroa sailed for Wanganui this morning, and, aided by a light sea breeze that has been blowing all da;, had secured a good offlng by four o'clock. The barque Melrose called for Sydney via Motueka tbis morning. She will load up with potatoes at the latter place for the Australian market. The ketch Prospect and cutter Dauntless sailed for Adele Island yesterday, and the schooner Uno this morning, for cargoes of atone. The cutter Maid of Italy was successfully floated last evening. The launching of her was commenced yesterday morning, and continued up to eleven o'clock last night, when, it being about high tid.-, the vessel was put into the water. Tue operation of launching the vessel has been a difficult one, from the nature of the ground to work upon, Firat she had to be raised up to a height of about twelve feet, so as to take her clear of the perpendicular wall at that part of the Bank, then, dragged over broadside across the Bank, which was done by means of passing a chain round the cutter, and then fasteniug a tackle to it. On an inspection being made this morning we found the hull of the vessel in a moat weird condition, the bilges on either eide being completely sto^e in, keel almost ground to pieces, and the copper nearly stripped off. The tenacity of the vessel has been severely teßte j, and if she h»d not bten a strong one she would most undoubtedly have left her bones on the Boulder Bank. Before tfce vessel was put into the water, the holes were patched up, and it was with the greatest difficulty that she could be kept free of water, the pump being continually kept going, and oae man with a bucket. The Maid of Italy has been beached opposite the workshop of Messrs Freeman Brothers, where she will be hove dowu, and undergo rep lira, and we hope in a short time to see this smart little vessel once more afloat. The Border Watch, of Juy 29 says:— There is nothing fresh from the wreck of the GeUwood to report,, The purchasers of the wreck are busy collecting, the goods ashore and carting them to hivoli Bay. They expect Boon to commence operations on the cargo Btill in the hull. The ship's boats have been repaired, and the diver is now on the Btiot. lihould the weather prove propitious a good deal ot the heavy cargo will soon be got out. Noihing has come to shore since the discovery of the. wreck.
