THE HAND, GINCE the introduction of Hand Serving Machines, attempts have coustantly been made to prove that they are fit to supersede the original Treadle Machines, but intending purchasers are requested to examine the matter and decide for themselves whether their claims are j well founded, and whether also the objections raised (frequently by interested parties) to the use of the Treadle can be sustained by facts. The advertiser submits that each kind of machine is good in its proper place, — the " Hand " for thoae young ladieß who may have occasion frequently to chauge their place of abode, or for those who are unable to give the email amount of time and trouble necessary to learn thoroughly the art (once acquired, of life long value), of using a "Treadle" Machine, and aleo for the very few who are physically unable to use the foot motion. But when the lady of the house desires to do » large quantity of sewing in the best manner, and in the least possible lime, A good Treadle Machine is ' unequalled. That the use of the feet in sewing is injurious to health is a matter upou which the " Doctors differ," and any lady auxious upon that point would do well to consult her own medical adviser, who, in giving hia opinion, would perhaps make some slight distinction between the probable effects ot using a Machine which requives much power to drive it, and one which runs lightly, as doea the " Wheeler and Wilson. The undersigned invites inspection of his stock of Machines suitable for all ordinary work, and will be happy to procure to order from best makers Machines required for special purposes. A new lot of HAND MACHINES to arrive per • Lutterworth,' direct from the makers, comprising both "Taylor's Improved," and "Taylor's Friction Wheel."
