Wellington, Thursday. The City Council this afternoon considered the reflections made last night by Mr Wakefield with regard to Wellington ami the demonstration got up for Sir Julius Yogel. The purport ot his remarks was that after having ;deplored the removal of the seat of Govern meat from "a noble city" to "a Brummagem co lection of wooden matchboxes," as one of the greatest mistakes ever m*de, an attempt to force prosperity where prosperity would not exist, he went on to cay that in Wellington there had bsen got up to order a no-called demonstration of working men. It was impossible for a lot of loafers on the beach at Wellington to be recognised as what they claimed to be when they assembled and said. "We are working men " It represented a lot of nobodies who could not do a day's work to gave thosr souls. The City Council have drawn up a resolution of Teprobation which they intend laying before the Speaker, and a meeting of working men is proposed to bo held on Friday to consider the langunge use! by Mr WakefleJd Friday. The Loan and Mercantile Agency have received the following further particulars by cablegram:— -Though the wool sales opened at an average price decline of 2J and 3d on last sales, they closed at tn average improvement of i<i to ald on last Bale price. The sales comprise about 40,000 bales, of which about I ',ooo have been sent to the manufacturing districts direct. There is a moderata demand on French account, but German, dtmsnd in dull. A woman named MsryLaighau died yesterday under very suspicous circumstances, as her body bears marks of violence At the inquest to-day, the evidence showed that her husband had kicked and beaten her on Friday inflicting irjurus at the back of the head. The jury returned a vtruict of manslaughter sgaiust him. Duneein, Thursday.
