OINCE the introduction of Hand Setting Machines, attempts have constantly been made to prove that they are fit to supersede the original Treadle Machines, but intending purchasers are requested to examine the matter and decide for themselves whether their claims are well founJedt and whether also the objections raised (frequently by interested partiee) to the use of the Treadle oan be sustained by facts. The advertiser submits that each kind of machine is good in its proper place,— the " Hand " for those young ladies who may have occasion frequently ! to change their p!noe of abode, or for those who are unable to give the small I amount of time and trouble necessary to learn thoroughly the art (once acquired, of life long value), of using a i "Treadle" Machine, and also for the i very few who are physically unable to ; use the foot motion. But when the lady of the house de- ! aires to do » large quantity of sewing in the best manner, and ie the Uaal possible time, j A good Treadle Machine is unequalled. That Ihe use of the feet in sewing is j injurious to health is a matter upon which the " Doctors differ," and any lady anxious upon that point would do well to consult her own medical adviser, who, in giving his opinion, would perhaps make aome slight distinction between the probable effects of using a Machine which requires much power to drive it, and one which runs lightly, as does the " Wheeler and Wilson. The undersigned invites inspection of his stock of Machines suitable for all ordinary work, and will be happy to procure to order from best makers Machines required for special purposes. A new lot of HAND MACHINES to arrive per * Lutterworth,' direct from the makers, comprising both "Taylor's Improved," and "Taylor's Friction Wheel." HAND MACHINES sold for Cash, and TREADLE MACHINES either for Cash or for " time payment," and Prices are now Reduced ! W. C. WILKINS, IRONMONGER, BRIDGE-STREET, NELSON. August, 1876. 2860 MALT !
