The result of the Queensland and Barrabool collision enquiry has been to cast all the blame on the second officer of the Barrabool, who disobeyed orders in neglecting to report the st.amer'B light., and also recklessly ported the helm which caused the collision. The individual losses are most seriously felt, as nothing was saved by those on board the Queensland. The Barrabool has been visited by thousands since she returned in her shattered condition.
Political matters have been interrupted by the want of confidence motion. The Premier last night made a splendid speech, condemning the loss of time, and called on the Opposition to disp'ac. the Government at once it they were in a position to do so.
Alfred Blanche, an accountant in the English and Scottish Bank, has been committed ior tial for embezzling J__oo.
A splendid rain has fallen all over the country, and the drought has completely broken np.
Seventy-two horses have accepted for the Melbourne Cup.
The statement that the Java-Darwin cable is worm eiten is contradicted.
Mrs Scott Siddoos is drawing good houses at the Theatre Royal in Shakespearian pieces. The markets have much improved, and an advance on soveral commodities is noted.
