WkLUNQTON, Wednesday la the Council to-day, a reply was received from the Chairman of the Coinmisjion on the Public Debts Sinking Fuud?, ia answer to a letter from the Speaker, that the accounts of the Commissioners were prepared and p/issed by the Board within the time required by law but that, owing to a heavy pressure of work on tiie Secretary to the Conimusioners (who is also Accountant to the Treasury), and perhaps also owing to the absence of the Chairman irom his office, through iodiapogition, for some days, the copies of the report and accounts to be laid before the two Houses of Parliament were not prepared until some days after the time required by law. The Commissioners express regret At the delay.
