Hokitika, Monday. A fire occurred at Robs veeterday morning, destroying M'Beath'a drapery store and M'Lean's tobacconist shop. M'Beath was not insured, «nd his loss is" between £2000 and £3000. M'Lean is insur _d for £200. Wellington, Saturday. The Government steamer Luna has returned from surveying Cook Strait in view of laying the second cable. C_ptains Johnson and Fairchild have made a complete survey in a zigztg course in the neighborhood of the proposed line, and have carefully mapped out the result. : The greatest depth found on the course was one hundred and fifty fathoms.
