The Nelson Evening Mail. MONDAY, AUGUST 14, 1876.
Mr. Kerr, Honorary Treasurer of tbe Nelson Aid Society, desires to acknowledge, with thanks, the receipt qf 14s 2d from the Nelson Artizans' Association. A siTTi-fa of the District Court for civil business only was fixed for this morning, and at the appointed hour the Clerk opened and adjourned the Court until Thuraday next at 11 a.m. In noticing the intention of Mr Wra. Price to deliver a lecture on the Local Option Licensing Bill, on Saturday, we omitted to mention the time. The lecture will be delivered this evening in the Temperance Hall, and the chair will be taken at half-past seven. An admission fee will be charged, the proceeds to be devoted to the Nelson Hospital Convalescent Pund. In reference to an application made in the Resident Magistrate's Court today by Mr Fell for costs in an action Smith v. Tidd, the Court ruled that defendants who paid money into Court were bound by the 4At_ section of the Act give notice to tbe plaintiff in order to save costs. This had not been done in the preeent case, and defendant would be ordered to pay 8s witnesses' expenses, iv addition to the amount already paid in.
