QINCE the introduction of Hand KJ Sewing Machines, attempts have constantly been made to prove that they are fit to, supersede the original Treadle Machines, but intending purchasers are requested to examine the matter and decide for themselves whether their claimß are well founded, and whether also tbe objections raised (frequently by interested parties) to the use of the Treadle can be sustained by facts. . The advertiser submits that each kind of machine ie good in its proper place, — the " Hand " for those young ladies who may have occasion frequently to change tbeir place of abode, or for those who are unable to give the small amount of time and trouble necessary to learn thoroughly the art (once acquired, of life long value), of using a "Treadle" Machine, and also for the very few who are physically unable to use the loot motion. But when the lady of the honse desires to do a large quantity of sewing in the best manner, and in the leant possible time, A good Treadle Machine is unequalled. That the use of the feet in sewing is injurious to health is a matter upon which tbe " Doctors differ," and aoy lady anxious upon that point would do well to consult her own medical adviser, who, in giving his opinion, would perhaps make some slight distinction between the probable fcffects of using a Machine which requires mnch power to drive it, and one which runs lightly, bb does the " Wheeler and Wilson. The undersigned invites inspection of his stock of Machines suitable for all ordinary work, and will be happy to procure to order from best makers Machines required for special purposes. A new lot of HAND MACHINES to arrive per ' Lutterworth,' direct from the makers, comprising both "Tailor's Improved," and "Taylor's Friction Wheel." HAND MACHINES sold for Casb, and TREADLE MACHINES either for Cash or for " time payment," and Prices are now Eeduced ! W. C. WILKINS, IRONMONGER, BRIDGE-STREET, NELSON. August, 1876. 2390
